DECLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS
Unless otherwise specified, all of the call numbers refer to items
which can be retrieved on the Lower Level of the Science, Industry and
Business Library. (*R precedes Library of Congress call numbers, which
are on items on the Open Reference Shelves of the Lower Level or at
the McGraw Desk).
Formerly classified information is generally released by the government
in bulk, following expiration of the 30 year rule or because of executive
orders requiring mandatory review. Most of this kind of materials is
released by the CIA, the State Department and the Defense Department,
but other agencies are sometimes represented. Restrictive or more generous
policies are adopted by different administrators.
These documents include: telegrams, correspondence, field reports,
minutes of cabinet level meetings, etc.
Since 1975 the Declassified Documents Quarterly Catalog has been indexing
this materials, for which there is a corresponding microfiche collection.
Abstracts in this index are arranged alphabetically by the names of
the agencies where from the documents originated. The documents are
numbered consecutively throughout the abstracts for each year.
